You don’t have to get certified to open a sober living home in Massachusetts. The Willing House is a MASH Certified Peer-Based Independent Living Community for Men and Women in Recovery. Our homes occupy the space between inpatient care and returning home. The program is an innovative and unique residential program serving chronic substance abuse in women 18yrs and older.
And yet there are still a significant number of sober homes operating in the dark, since plenty of folks aren’t referred through state agencies or vendors. The 180 or so that have been certified by MASH represent roughly one-third of the estimated total sober homes in the state, according to Matzek.
